The ribbons on this Makwa Studio mask are a symbol of identity and adaptation and survival, which we are all learning about and going through right now due to the pandemic.
For every mask you purchase, the artist is donating two basic cotton masks to the Southern Indian Health Council in San Diego to help support indigenous communities and their health.
"I believe that everyone no matter their circumstances deserves to feel protected during this global crisis of COVID-19. Due to a shortage in PPE, hospitals and clinics around the country have put out a call to the community to create masks for their patients and health care workers. The Ribbon Mask Project is a response to this need. Indigenous led, but making masks for anyone who inquires, we are donating 2 CDC compliant cotton masks to individuals and partnering organizations for every Ribbon Mask sold." - Maggie Thompson, Makwa Studio

RAM is a new program of the San Diego Art Institute, launched in response to the impact of COVID-19 on creative industries.
As the only contemporary cultural institution in Balboa Park, the San Diego Art Institute (SDAI) nurtures the creation of groundbreaking art by providing a dedicated exhibition space for the artistic talent that resides in Southern California and Northern Baja to collaborate, exhibit, and thrive.
Through high quality, interactive programming, educational initiatives, and exhibitions, SDAI promotes cultural equity and artistic enrichment within our community and enables diverse audiences to interact with art and artists in meaningful ways.
RAM’s debut was made possible through a grant from U.S. Bank.
