Set of four 10 x 10 inch cotton cocktail napkins hand-dyed with loquat leaves collected in San Diego, California. Each napkin is sewn with a running stitch and raw hem to protect against further fraying. The natural cotton is pre-washed and mordanted with alum acetate and soda ash for long lasting color.
Please select between a set of four solid color napkins or set of four shibori dyed napkins. Shibori is a traditional Japanese technique of folding and binding fabric to create resist patterns.
Nature + Care:
Each napkin is hand-dyed with natural materials. An alum acetate mordant is used to treat the natural cotton prior to dyeing to ensure the highest quality of light-fastness. Although the fiber is treated to ensure exposure to environmental elements and wear, it is inherent to the artwork that it will fade over time.
Due to the nature of the natural dye process, each piece may have variations in color and wash. These unique moments reflect the combination of water, heat, and natural material on the fiber. Each dye pot and reaction is different and captures the time and place of the process and plant.
It is safe to gently steam and iron your napkins on the “cotton” setting of your iron. Hand wash cold with pH neutral soap as needed to keep the strongest, vibrant color for longer; however, these napkins can handle machine washing on cold settings, as well.
Dimensions: Approximately 10 x 10 inches

RAM is a new program of the San Diego Art Institute, launched in response to the impact of COVID-19 on creative industries.
As the only contemporary cultural institution in Balboa Park, the San Diego Art Institute (SDAI) nurtures the creation of groundbreaking art by providing a dedicated exhibition space for the artistic talent that resides in Southern California and Northern Baja to collaborate, exhibit, and thrive.
Through high quality, interactive programming, educational initiatives, and exhibitions, SDAI promotes cultural equity and artistic enrichment within our community and enables diverse audiences to interact with art and artists in meaningful ways.
RAM’s debut was made possible through a grant from U.S. Bank.
